Juaquin Malphurs, (born July 1986) better known by his stage name Waka Flocka Flame, is an rapper signed to So Icey Entertainment. He is the son of Debra Antney, Gucci Mane's manager and CEO of So Icey/Mizay Entertainment. Malphurs moved with his family from New York to Riverdale, Georgia when he was nine years old. As a child, drug dealers and basketball players were his role models. |
The name "Waka Flocka" was given to him by rapper Gucci Mane. Waka Flocka Flame is a member of the 1017 Brick Squad, with Gucci Mane, OJ Da Juiceman, Frenchie, and Wooh Da Kid. He is currently preparing his debut album and a mixtape with the Brick Squad.
He was shot in the arm while struggling with a robber at a car wash in Atlanta, Georgia on the morning of January 19, 2010. His debut single is called "O Let's Do It".
Waka Flocka Flame has come out with street tapes like "Streets R Us" with Travis Porter and "Lebron Flocka James" among others. Waka Flocka Flame is now working with Radric Davis to reach the next level of success, rising through the ranks of So Icey. Currently, Waka is learning about the complexities of the rap work from Radric Davis, also known as Gucci Mane.
Other popular songs by Waka Flocka Flame include "Off Da Chain" and "Southside Anthem." Fans, as well as Waka himself, have described his sound as a combination of crunk meets west coast. Waka cites that his aspiration is to get people to dance and fill them with energy - especially the female fans. While Waka Flocka Flame hails from New York, he relocated to Riverdale, GA when he was nine. There, he met Gucci Mane, and this sparked a whole new world of musical possibilities to him.

As he was developing, Waka Flocka Flame tended to idolize both pro basketball players and hustlers. At this point in his life, he couldn't see beyond becoming one or the other as an adult. Fortunately, Waka Flocka Flame discovered hip hop music - an excellent way to make money and express his natural creativity. His goal, as a rap artist, is to creatively communicate his personal experiences by expressing himself naturally. Waka Flocka Flame uses his musical talents to convey his own life and emotions, and uses this to connect with his audience. During 2009, Waka has appeared on multiple mixtapes, and is going to continue recording for the foreseeable future with So Icey Entertainment and the 1017 Brick Squad label.
Waka thinks of himself as part of the south N.W.A., along with Frenchie, Wooh the Kid, OJ Da Juiceman, and Gucci Mane. "I am in my own lane, I'm rapping my own way, doing my own thing."
